All
cynologists agree, that the bulldog is a descendant of the English mastiff
dogs. The name ’bulldog’ firstly appears in a letter from 1631., which
was written by P. Eaton (St. Sebastian) to J. Willington (London). |

The character and features of the English bulldog are
appreciated by experts. The bulldog is fond of children and patient with
its owner. It is a pleasant companion in the house because this dog loves
convenience, sleeping and lounging.
The history of the type
The English bulldog is the descendant of an ancient fighting dog. The
ancestor was a dog-typed, molossoid dog which was used by the ancient Greeks
and Romans to hunt and fighting actions (games). Probably the English bulldog
was taken to England by merchants, and its role was to amuse people by
fighting with bulls for over 600 years. These dogs were more aggressive,
had longer legs than present-day bulldogs. Fortunately animal fighting's
were prohibited in 1835, that's why English bulldogs became "unemployment’s".
In addition, this type was attacked by societies for animal protection.
In the middle of the 19th century, dog exhibitions came into fashion, and
due to the popular exhibitions this type avoided the whole destruction.
The English bulldog breeders established clubs and created the standard
of the type.
This dog seems to be lazy and inert, but, at the same time it can run
incredibly quickly. It jumps as a rubber ball, up to 1,5 metres as well.
It can be charged with guarding and protecting. If it has to fight, the
ancient wildness gets up. The English bulldog does not know neither defeat
nor resignation, so it is not recommended to let it fighting with other
dogs. This is the most decided and bold among dogs. Although the dog seems
to be surly, it is very playful. If you want a playful dog with such positive
features as we mentioned above, the English bulldog is the right choice.
E.g. There was a dog in Hungary, whose favourite toy was a 20 kgs iron
bar.
This dog is sensitive, so it is not recommended for too obstinate people.
It loves its patient, cheerful, funny owner. The English bulldog avoids
unnecessary movement. E.g. when a new dog turns up, the bulldog only glances
at the arrival. It is a perfect, calm "English gentleman". This type is
faithful and has an exceptional character. If you really know this dog
you are fond of it.
